Cover love

Like most authors, I love, love, LOVE getting a new book cover. It makes your book feel more "real" if that makes sense. That all the hard work paid off and you have this beautiful cover and it will soon go out to readers. I've heard some terrible cover stories in the past. I've been really lucky that I love every cover I've ever gotten. SO this weekend I was SUPER excited to wake up to an email with the cover for my upcoming Liquid Silver Books release, Staking Claim.

Isn't it gorgeous? I really like it and think the artist did a great job with bringing my characters to life.

For fun, here's the blurb for Staking Claim.

Workaholic Gabrielle Ellis never lets her relationships make it past a couple dates. The sooner she can ditch them, the less chance she has they might leave her. Of course, she never picks the kind of guys she’d want anything long term with anyway… After a night out celebrating yet another escape from her jackass of the week, and her upcoming move, she wakes up in her best friend, Jake Marshal’s truck in the middle-of-nowhere.

According to Jake, she dumps every guy she dates for one reason; they’re not him. He promises her, if she'll just let go and allow herself to feel, she’ll know she belongs in his bed forever. Jake Marshal, consummate bachelor and participant in her hidden fantasies, wants to stake his claim. On her. As much as she wants him, she’s scared, too. After one touch, Gabrielle knows she doesn’t stand a chance because Jake always gets what he wants. But just maybe, she’s been his all along.

Friends to lovers...

I have exciting news! I just signed a contract with Liquid Silver Books for a new erotic romance, Staking Claim! It's a friends to lovers story which is always one of my favs! Sooo, because I'm in a playful mood I thought I'd tease you guys a bit with a little taste of Jake and Gabrielle!

Blurb:
Workaholic Gabrielle Ellis never lets her relationships make it past a couple dates. The sooner she can ditch them, the less chance she has they might leave her. Of course, she never picks the kind of guys she’d want anything long term with anyway, but that's beside the point.

After a night out celebrating yet another escape from her jackass of the week, and her upcoming move, she wakes up in her best friend, Jake Marshal’s truck in the middle of nowhere. According to Jake, she dumps every guy she dates for one reason; they’re not him. He promises after one weekend of erotic bliss, she’ll know she belongs in his bed forever. Jake Marshal, consummate bachelor and participant in her hidden fantasies, is staking his claim. As much as she wants him, she’s scared, too. After one touch, Gabrielle knows she doesn’t stand a chance.

UNEDITED EXCERPT:

Jake’s soulful black eyes captured. “You want to know why you break up with all those schmucks, honey?”
Actually, she didn’t. Not tonight. “No, I don’t. I’m tired, hungry and annoyed you brought me to,” she waved her hand in the air, “wherever we are without my consent. I’m not in the mood to be analyzed tonight.”
Jake snickered before he spoke to her in that honeyed voice she’d heard him use on so many women in the past. “Well, I’m going to tell you anyway.”
Gabrielle threw up her arms. “Of course you are. Jake Marshal always does what he wants.” Despite being her best friend, he drove her crazy sometimes.
“I think you already know the answer, Gab, but I’ll spell it out for you. It’s because, they’re. Not. Me.”
Engage over reaction. “What? You are really full of yourself. We’re friends, Jake. You’re not looking to settle down, and I have too bad a track record to risk our friendship on your ego.” Thump, thump, thump. Her heart punched at her ribs.
Before she could stop him, Jake unhooked her seatbelt and pulled her onto his lap. Damn, the man was warm. He smelled like a mixture of fresh cut grass and man. He cupped her cheeks and, damn it, she wasn’t putting up a fight. “I’m going to change your mind, honey. I’m not letting you leave me. You’re mine, and I’m tired of waiting for you to figure that out.”
His mouth took hers. Jake never did anything halfway, so his tongue went straight for her lips, teasing them open. Gabrielle didn’t hesitate. Sure, this might be a huge mistake, but she was a woman who’d had nothing but bad sex lately, and Jake was as delicious as they came.
She opened her mouth and let him inside, their tongues tangled as he swept each and every contour of her mouth. Oh, God, she’d groaned, but she couldn’t hold it back. His scent wrapped around her like a Jake-quilt, making the apex of her thighs flood with heat. The warmth of his mouth traveled to her jaw line, her neck, behind her ear.
“Give me the weekend to prove it to you, honey. Let me love you, Gab. Let me worship your body and show you that you belong in my bed.”
No, no, no. This wasn’t right. It was Jake’s hands caressing her back, his mouth licking her oh-so-tender skin. They were friends. He was the only constant in her life and when this ended badly, she would lose him.
Gabrielle dropped her head backward to give him better access. For something so wrong, it felt damn right.

And... that's it. Like I said, just a tease. LOL. Hope you liked it. Their story was really fun for me to write. I'm a sucker for best friend stories. I love writing two characters who know one another so well before they take that next step. My hubby and I were best friends when we got together so those stories always hold a special place in my heart.

What are some of your favorite friends to lovers books?

Um, he doesn't look like that!

I love a guy with dark hair. I've always been that way. Give me some messy, black hair, bright blue eyes and a wicked grin gets you in all the right places and I'm a goner. I find that I automatically try and write all the heroes in my books with dark hair. The eyes aren't always blue (a nice green thrown in from time to time or a dark, brown his hot too), but my guys almost always try and have dark hair! In fact, I have to remind myself that black haired guys aren't the only hot guys out there. All the heroes I write can't have dark hair.

I have nothing against those sexy blonds of course. They're as delicious as can be too, but it's like my mind automatically goes to dark hair when I'm writing.

Usually, it stops with my writing, but the other day it leaked into my reading. I was devouring a good book, but something about the heroes description just didn't work for me. For some reason it didn't seem to be HIM. Which is weird because it obviously is. LOL. I didn't write the guy, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't visualize the hero the way the writer described him. It didn't fit with his personality, IMO. Crazy, huh?

For me, I'm not even sure I just wanted to give the guy my knee-weakening black hair and blue eyes. It was really a whole package deal, that I just couldn't see. I've never had that happen before so I'm curious if I'm on my own on this one.

Have you ever done this? Do you tend to imagine the heroes with your favorite characteristics or do you see who the author paints for you? Has there ever been a time you just couldn't see a character, hero or heroine the way the author described?

Satisfy Me gets 5 Cherries!

Whipped Cream Erotic Romance Reviews gave Satisfy Me five cherries! Here's a snippet of the review.

I think the relationship between these two was perfect. The relationship started as just a spicy fling, but ended in a sensual romantic relationship. That does not mean the spice died down. Instead it grew with the intensity of their feelings. This was one sizzling story that woke up my adventurous side.

With the right type of characters and the perfect plot this story left me wanting more in a good way.

Love me some sexy heroes!

I have to admit, most of the time, I read for the heroes. I mean, I have to like the heroine. It's helps if I can relate to her in some way, but there are those that I can't really relate too, but like anyway. When it comes to a book I adore though--you know those special books that end up on your keeper shelf that you read over and over? The thing that all those books have in common is, though I like the heroine, I LOVE the hero.

I can't help it! I read for the boys! Love those sexy men. I've always had a soft spot for a good tortured hero. I don't know what it is about those men who are broken, but damn they know how to love a woman. On the other end of that spectrum, nothing gets me going like those cocky, sarcastic guys that are good and they know it, but damn they treat their women good too. See what I mean? I love book guys. I can't help it. Shh, don't tell my hubby ;)

SO, some of my favorites of those delicious heroes are.

Vane from Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I have to admit that wolf shifters don't always do it for me, but there is something so sexy about Vane. I think it comes from the way he treats Bride. He is so attentive and always makes her feel so beautiful. He respects her and worships her body and I can't help but wish for a day in Bride's shoes.

Z from Lover Awakened by JR Ward. Poor Z is the epitome of the tortured hero. The brother is so broken, but I can't help want to love him. He does something to my heart--touches it in a way that I'm not sure a hero from any other book has.

Noah from Too Much Temptation by Lori Foster. I know Anne and I are both in love with Noah. I think it will always be my favorite of her books. There is something so incredibly sexy about how Noah just can't get enough of Grace. He's right up there with Vane on the way he worships her body. It gets me every time.

Bones from The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. Bones will always be my man. If I could pull one hero out of a book and claim him as mine, it would be Bones. I've read the series about four times and each time I read it, he makes me giddy. I get smiley with some of the stuff he says to her, and when he's loving her...yeah, gets me hot and bothered every time. The man is the epitome of sexy and he's sarcastic as hell which I just love. I'm starting to see a pattern here, but another big thing that I love about Bones is how he loves Cat. When he realizes she's the one, there's nothing wishy-washy about him. He wants her and she will be his. He doesn't doubt his feelings or run away. When he finds her, he holds onto her with both hands from the beginning and doesn't let go. He'd do anything for her and it makes my heart race. Oh, and did I mention he's hot? LOL.

There you have it, the list of some of my sexiest heroes. What heroes can you not help but love?

Wild gets TOP PICK from Night Owl

I love it when I google myself and find a surprise review I didn't know about. My latest release, Wild got a wonderful review from Night Owl Romance and was also a top pick!

"This is my second look at Madison Scott’s work. Her deft ability to create characters that are fun and relatable is fantastic. Hunter and Cat are both struggling to figure out where to go but their relationship is honest and genuine. Of course, Scott delivers on the passion and hotness as well."

New Release: Wild

Release dats are equally exciting and scary! I've been pretty excited about this one though. Book one in my Nanny Diaries series, Wild is now available!

Available HERE
Blurb:

Catrina Reynolds has a secret. By day, she cares for the daughter of her boss, Hunter James, but by night, she pens naughty fantasies about him in her journal. A man like Hunter: gorgeous, wealthy and confident would never return the affections of a sweet, mousy, nanny like Catrina, so when journaling is no longer enough, she's forced to act out her fantasies alone...

While his daughter is away for the weekend, Hunter plans to get to know his quiet, shy nanny. He senses there's more to the woman than meets the eye. When he stumbles upon her calling out his name while showering, he wants nothing more than to lure the wildcat out of her sugary, sweet shell.

Catrina and Hunter embark on a weekend of erotic fantasies all geared toward bringing out the naughty girl hiding inside her. But is there more between them than their sexual games? Will he make all her fantasies come to life.

Excerpt:
Catrina stepped from the shower on weak legs. They were wobbly, like those on the old Gumby doll she'd found for Ashley last week. She pulled a scarlet red towel from the rack and wrapped it around herself. She still tingled, ached, and hungered for Mr. James, but her shower release took the edge off her need, if only a little while. It's like he turned her into a wanton, some wild woman with sex on the brain. Catrina shuddered. If he ever found out how much she wanted him, she would lose her job for sure. A man like him wouldn't want some starry-eyed novice chasing after him between games of Barbie and Pet Shop with his daughter.

After grabbing a second towel for her hair, she pulled open the bathroom door. She took one step out of the bathroom and the towel she used to dry her hair dropped to the floor. Her heart thundered as heat surged through her cheeks like strikes of lightening. That same heat sent fire coursing through her veins and landing between her legs. She couldn't move. Her feet were heavy, planted into the ground of her bedroom as her eyes trained on the man sitting in the corner of her darkened bedroom.

What was he doing here? Oh God, had he heard what she'd said? Did he know what she just did? Tremors so different from the vibrations of pleasure she'd just felt moments before wracked her body. This was it. She would lose her job. Her friends would be angry at her, and she wouldn't be able to spend time with the little girl she'd grown to love.

Catrina opened her mouth to speak, but only a squeak emerged. She shook her head, and then dropped it forward, unable to look at him with his coal black hair and penetrating eyes. And that's when she remembered ... oh God; she was standing naked in front of Mr. James! Well, naked except for her towel which rested just below her rear. "I--I have to go," she managed to push the words through her lips before she turned to duck back into the bathroom.

"Cat, wait."

She did just that. She couldn't have moved if she wanted to. He called her Cat. In the two months she worked for him, he'd never called her that name.
"We need to talk." His voice poured over her like warm honey, making her gooey between her legs. What is wrong with me? I'm about to lose my job, and I still want him?

"Shouldn't I get dressed first?" That's all she needed -- to get thrown out of his house without clothes on her back. What would Molly and Brenna think? She could only imagine calling her friends to tell them she'd been fired, needed a ride, and ‘oh, can you bring me some clothes’?

"I'd rather you didn't, Cat. You're a beautiful woman, and after what I just heard, I have to tell you, I'm imagining you in much less than even that little towel."

Warmth spread through her belly as her heart rate jumped. Did he really think she was beautiful? More importantly, did he really fantasize about her the same way she did him? Despite the way she burned with embarrassment because of what he'd heard, she turned to him. This was her chance to be the wildcat. Who knew, he might not want her the way she did him, but she couldn't turn away from him if there was a chance! Maybe, just maybe, she could be her wildcat with the real thing instead of just in her mind.
"What a contradiction you are. Your cheeks are scarlet, and you can hardly look me in the eye, yet, just seconds ago, I heard you screaming my name while you pleasured yourself. So sweet, yet so bad too, aren't you, Cat?"

She fought the overwhelming urge to duck back into the bathroom, lock the door and never come out again. This wasn't her. Hell, even with Roger she hadn't been blunt in the sex department. How could she with the man sitting in front of her? The one who inspired all her sexual reveries, yet also held her livelihood in his hands. Not only her livelihood, but everything she'd ever wanted. Being a nanny may not be what most little girls dreamed of being as a child, but for her and her two friends, it was.

But could she ever forgive herself if she passed up this opportunity? This could be her chance to prove to herself she could be more than sweet, shy Catrina. Maybe, just maybe, Hunter could help her be more. The only question was, could she do it? "I--I want to be bad."

Catrina risked a glance at him to see a wicked grin stretch across his face. She'd never seen the look in his eyes before. Heck, she'd never seen any man look at her the way Hunter James did in that moment.

"Tell me what you want, Sweet Cat."

She almost lost it right there. Was this really a possibility for her? Catrina fought to slow her rapid breaths. "I want you to touch me. To--to make me wild. I want you to make me forget who I am, turn me into the woman I am in my fantasies."

He pushed to his feet, taking long, quick strides until he reached her. In one swift movement, Hunter pulled her against him and covered her mouth with his. Catrina's whole body melted in his arms as a moan of shock and satisfaction rumbled inside her. Hunter ate the sound as his tongue pushed past her lips into her mouth. He scorched her with his heat, with the sweeps and probes of his skillful tongue. She brought her arms up and wrapped them around his neck, aware that the material of the towel felt looser around her.
When his large hand splayed over the small of her bare back, Catrina shivered. Tingles of delight raced down her spine. The towel must be completely open now. She didn't have time to dwell on the fact that she stood bare in Hunter James's arms, because he pulled her tighter against him. Her belly came in contact with the hard length of his erection. She'd made him hard! Sexy, gorgeous Hunter James was hard for her.

That wild woman who only came out when she was alone in her bedroom started to emerge again, begging and pleading to break free from the chains that held her at bay. Catrina rubbed against him. Relishing the feel of his length grinding against her. Hunter's hand ran up the small of her back to her neck, and then he buried it in her hair, pulling her closer for another sweep of his tongue before easing her away.

"You want me, Sweet Cat?" With his free hand, he covered one of her breasts before pinching her hardened nipple. Catrina sighed as the pull of his fingers vibrated throughout her whole body. "Why didn't I notice these pretty, little nipples hardening for me before? Are they always like this for me? Always so sharp with your desire?"

"Yes," she hissed, trying to stuff down the embarrassment of being with him this way.

"And you want to be wild for me?" Hunter pinched and rolled her nipple again. "You want those fantasies I heard you acting out in your shower?"

His other hand left her hair and went to her free breast. They felt so good. Better than she imagined as they played with her sensitive peaks. "Oh, yes..."

"You intrigue me. You have since I first met you, but I'm not sure I can give you any more than that. And I don't want to lose you. You're good with my daughter and she loves you. I have to be sure you're okay with that. My daughter and your job are the most important things here."

She would take it. If they tried for anything more than just the weekend, things could get sticky. As much as she wanted him, she wanted her job more. She didn't want to leave this house or his little girl. "I love Ashley too, and I'm not asking you for more."

"So you'll do as I say, Sweet Cat? You'll let me draw out that skittish wildcat you've been hiding from me? I'm warning you, love, I like to be in charge. Will you let me help you find your pleasure?" His voice was thick with what she hoped to be desire.

She never wanted anything more in her life. Her body screamed, pulsed, as wetness dripped down her legs. "Please ... I want you. I want it all."

In the zone!

Don't you love it when you're in the zone? You know what I mean, that spot where no matter what it is you need to do: writing, housecleaning, applying for a promotion at work and you're just so focused that you're...well you're in the zone.

I've been like that with my writing lately. I don't know if its just my determination pushing through, if I'm just really feeling this book, or a combination of the two, but whatever it is, I'm in place where I feel like nothing can stop me. It's just the best feeling! I think we all go through these times. Some days I feel like I just can't do anything and then I get in these flows where I can hardly keep up with my fingers as they're dancing across the keyboard.

I wish I could bottle this energy up for those slow days. LOL. Or at least wish I knew how to channel it when I need to. For now, I'm just need to take advantage of it while I can!

Anything big going on in your life that you're pushing for? A deadline? New job? Diet?

*sigh* Need some dieting help

I have been dieting since July. I joined the gym in September and go at least three times a week some times four. I got on the scale today and I've only lost 13 pounds in all that time. At one point I got down to losing 18 pounds, but somewhere in there I gained five pounds back again.

It's KILLING me. I just don't get it. I look at food and put on weight. I work so hard with little results. I can't really afford a personal trainer at the gym so I'm coming to you guys. I need to know what you've done to lose weight. Try a diet that worked really well? Know a lot about working out and have any pointers for me on what I should be doing? Only cardio for now? Weights too? I need all the help I can get. It's so frustrating to work so hard at something with such little results. To get to a point where I would be semi happy with myself before summer I need to lose 2.3 pounds a week. It won't be my final goal, but I figured setting short term goals would be good in the beginning. I know you're supposed to lose weight slow, but I don't think two pounds a week is too many to aim for.

So, give it too me! I need all the help I can get!

Problems at school...

As parents we always want what's best for our kids. We want to shield them as much as possible from the hardships in life. Want them happy, healthy, smart, with tons of friends and everything. My little girl is six and she's in kindergarten. We moved a couple weeks ago and she started at a new school. She was nervous as was I but she made friends really easily at her old school so I was confident she would here too. I didn't cry until I got back to the car when I dropped her off the first day and was ecstatic when I picked her up and found out she made a new friend. A little girl we'll call M.

For the past two weeks she and M have been buddies. They hang out at school and my kiddo is always talking about her. She started mentioning this M eating stuff from my daughters lunch. Told her its nice to share, but she needed to eat her food and M her own. There were a couple other little issues, nothing major, but little getting into trouble things that had never happened with my girl before. I started wondering about this M, but what could I do?

Well, on Monday my daughter came home upset because M didn't want to be her friend anymore. I know kids are fickle, especially at this age. Stuff like this happens all the time. I told my kiddo that. She probably said something she didn't mean and things would be better tomorrow. Well Tuesday came and my kiddo had a bad day at school. She came home really upset, grumpy and told me M still didn't want to be her friend and that when she tried to sit by her, M told her no she wanted someone else too.

This broke my heart. I HATE stuff like this. It's so hard for a six year old to understand. I told my daughter to find another friend. That a real friend wouldn't be mean to you like that and tell you they didn't want to be your friend anymore. I don't want her waiting around one someone like that, but its still hard. She's new and these other kids have been going to school together for months. I just want her to be happy and not to have any problems with kids at school. Kids can be HARSH.

So keep her in your thoughts that she has a good day today! Lets hope she meets a different friend. Raising kids is hard!

Two great reviews for Bliss and an excerpt!

This has been a nice week! Bliss, book two in the Malone Brothers Series has received a couple of really great reviews.

Manic Readers
4.5 Stars

Bliss is blissfully good! Madison Scott can pat herself on the back for a good job. This may be a quickie read but it packs a bunch of heat. Lindy and Ethan share raw sexual attraction to one another. I could see why Lindy fell for Ethan. A tall, sexy, ripped construction worker. I will have seconds please. Bliss is just what the doctor ordered for these long winter days. You have got to check out this book today.

The banter and sarcastic wit between Ethan and Lindy brought an added layer of sexual frustration that gives warning bells of the hot and sweaty sex that is about to come. Their weekend of sexual pleasure was enough to bring on heat flashes in the dead of winter. I really enjoyed Bliss and I can't wait to read more from Ms. Scott.

To celebrate, here's an excerpt!

Lindy ordered her usual Coors Light and added an order of cheesy fries. Her stomach grumbled in anticipation for the grease and beer fest she had planned.

A few minutes later her meal arrived. She wasted no time diving in to savor the fries and cheese on her plate. Behind her, the rickety door creaked open. Loud footsteps crunched across broken peanut shells in her direction. Stuffing another gooey, clump of fries in her mouth she chewed like she hadn’t eaten in days when a familiar scent of freshly cut trees, and the musky smell of a hard-working man swirled around her.

“Been a while since someone fed ya, has it?” Ethan pulled out the bar stool next to her and sat down.

Great. Just my luck.

Lindy finished her bite. “Well, I’ve been so busy picking up the slack for all the meat-heads I work with I hardly have time to do something as trivial as eat. Not used to a woman eating in front of you? I may be thin but I’m not a dry salad kind of girl, like the ones you’re used to, I’m sure.” She pushed another bite in her mouth. This one not as big as the last though.

Rich, hearty laughter erupted from Ethan’s perfect mouth snaked around her, causing goose bumps to pebble up her arms.

“I have to give it to you for your comebacks, Bliss. That one was pretty good. A crock of shit, but funny.”

Lindy downed the rest of her beer in one gulp. “Isn’t it bad enough I have to see you all day at work? Why are you coming into Smokey’s now too?” Ethan and his younger brother Shane did come in from time to time, but they spent most of their time at The Last Chance. Smokey’s was pretty far out of town. Not that Last Chance was all that big to begin with, but she figured the guys liked to hang out closer to town since that’s where they lived.

“Free country.”

He gave her a wink and smile. His smile made all the women in town melt like warm butter. It pissed the hell out of her that it worked on her too. Not that she’d let him know it. Before she could think of something smart to say, Smokey walked up.

“I’ll have a bottle of Coors.” Ethan tilted his head toward her. “Bring another light beer out for the lady, too.”

“I can order for myself, Malone.”

“Oh, come on, Bliss. Aren’t ladies supposed to like it when a man orders a drink for them?” The right side of his mouth rose as if he tried to hide his smile.

The man took pleasure in grating on her nerves. She could see it in the light in his sparkling blue eyes. “Only a woman without a brain--like the ones you usually date.”

“Usually, huh? Does that mean we’re on a date now?”

Oh yeah. He was enjoying this. Ethan Malone was the devil himself. He didn’t even try to hide his smile this time.

“I guess I’ll leave you two alone.” Smokey looked at her and winked. She hadn’t even realized he was still there. And what the heck was the wink about? She’d known Smokey since she was ten years old and the man never winked at her.

“Please, you know we aren’t on a date as much as I do. First of all, I don’t date jerks and second, I’m so not your type.”

Ethan took a swig of the beer. “What makes you think you’re not my type?”

“I have eyes.” He licked his lips and watched her. She kind of wished she was his type, which surprised the hell out of her. Honestly, even though Ethan was the hottest thing in a pair of faded jeans and a tool belt, he wasn’t really her type either. It wasn’t too often that Lindy dated, but when she did, the men sure weren’t womanizers. Or alphas, and Ethan was both of those.

“The women I date have eyes, Bliss.”

Lindy tried to hide her smile. “Good one, Malone. You know what I meant. I’m not stacked, flirtatious, and I don’t put out to any man with a six-pack.”

Ethan set his bottle on the bar. “So you’ve noticed my six-pack, huh?”

This time she couldn’t help but laugh. Part of her knew he was serious. The man really did know how hot he was, but that wasn’t his only quality, he had a good sense of humor. Ethan joked around more than anyone she knew.

“You’re incorrigible.”

“You like me.” He leaned toward her. “Admit it, Bliss. You want me just as much as I want you. You might not be my usual type, but you’re damn sexy and I have to tell you, I’m tired of pretending I think otherwise.”

Lindy knew she stared at him open-mouthed, but there wasn’t a damn thing she could do about it. Never in a million years did she expect to hear Ethan Malone come on to her. Hell, they didn’t even get along all that well. But he was right. She wanted him, but was it in her best interest to have him? Being the only woman on the site, she already had to fight for all the guys’ respect. If they found out she was sleeping with Ethan, one of the owners, she’d never live it down. “Listen, Malone.”

Ethan reached up and put a finger to her mouth. “Shh. Don’t even say it. I want you, Lindy Bliss, and when I want something, you can be damn sure I’m not going to give up until I have it.”

Where does the time go?

Six years ago today I was in the hospital holding my very first baby. She was gorgeous and after a really hard labor, emergency c-section and a few complications, we finally had her. A little girl with a head full of black hair, dark eyes, and the most beautiful, little rosebud lips.

This morning she climbed into bed with me to inform me she was finally six and she'd been, "waiting her whole life for this birthday" LOL. It's amazing and scary at the same time how fast they grow. She's already talking about turning 16 to get her drivers license and how she wants to be a firefighting, veterinarian when she grows up :).

She's just like me. She's cautious, a worrier, a bit shy to people she doesn't know. She thinks everything through, measures all the what ifs and loves to read. In fact, she's above her reading level. It amazes me the stuff she's reading in kindergarten.

I will never have to worry about someone taking advantage of her. She's got such a strong, little personality. She's very particular about who she lets in and she will be the first one to tell you honestly how she feels about something.

She's a special little girl and I just can't believe how fast she's growing up! Time flies, doesn't it? Seems like she was just learning to talk and walk and now she's asking me if I will babysit her kids when she's all grown up and at work. LOL.

I'm realizing how important it is to treasure ALL these moments, every day. Before we know it, they're gone.

Happy birthday, baby!

Multitasker or a little crazy? You decide.

I'm working on a novella for my publisher right now. It's due March first so I really need to just get it done. It's a fun story and I'm enjoying writing it and everything, but I have this other story in the back of my head that keeps pushing to the front of my brain. The story wants to be told so badly and I really want to tell it! This one isn't for a specific publisher, no deadline or anything so I really just need to work on my original novella, but its hard when the characters from the second book are screaming in my ear to give them heir HEA.

So, whats a girl to do? Well, I decided to work on both! I already know where I want to go with both stories. Character sketches are done, blurbs are written, the whole nine yards. Now I have to actually write them! I decided since most of my writing is done during the baby's nap time or throughout the day that's when I would work on my novella. If and only if I hit my goal for the day, then I will write a little bit on the second book in the evening time. I did this for the first time yesterday and it worked well. I did my five pages on my novella and the in the evening I wrote three on my novel. Didn't do too much on either. Just enough to make some progress and feel like I'm accomplishing something. I felt pretty damn good about myself by the end of the day! I was like the multitasking queen yesterday. LOL. I'm hoping that will fuel me to accomplish as much if not more today!

Do you ever work on more than one project at once?

If it were up to him, Talorc—laird of the Sinclair clan and leader of his werewolf pack— would never marry. And after an intensely climactic wedding night, the two fiercely independent souls sense an unbreakable bond…

Deaf since childhood, Abigail hopes to keep her affliction from Talorc as long as possible. And for his part, he has no intention of telling her about being a werewolf. A Good Series

I'd like to welcome guest author Regina Carlysle to my blog today!

For me, a good series is the gift that keeps on giving. Whether you’re a reader or a writer, there’s just something about a hot, rockin’ series that catches our attention. As a reader, we love the idea of re-visiting characters from other books. We want to know they are happy, if they are expecting, are they still in love, have they made big changes in their lives. Those kinds of things. Many authors do these and do them well and I’m always the first in line to buy when another installment comes out on some of my faves.
I also believe, for an author, there’s almost nothing better than writing a series. How many times do we write something we fully expect will be a single title book and then suddenly a character steps onto the scene and shouts SURPRISE. Well hell, you’ve gotta write it, don’t you? You’ve got to tell his story. Before you know it a series is born. I am in the middle of writing a successful series for Ellora’s Cave. I really didn’t set out to write a series. It just kind of evolved and I’m really glad it did. The High Plains Shifters series began with Highland Beast (May ’09) and characters from a small Texas town were introduced. Had to do another, didn’t I? Lone Star Lycan continued the saga (July ’09) quickly followed by Ringo’s Ride (Aug.) and then Edge of Nowhere (Dec.). Now each of these stories stands by itself but other characters continually appear and often play major roles. I’ve been having lots and lots of fun with it and it’s beginning to look as if I will continue to build this small town set in the desolate Texas plains.
What is really cool though is often someone will buy a book from the middle or the tail end of the series, like it, and then go back to buy the others. I’ve done that. Haven’t you? As a writer there is value in writing a series. It’s truly the gift that keeps on giving and as long as a story is there and readers are buying…why not write them?

Edge of Nowhere

Slowly but surely

Dieting sucks. LOL. I've tried it a million times in the past and I think I finally found a combo that works for me with diet and excesses. I've dropped seven pounds in two weeks and while I'm super happy about that and the number motivates me, its still damn hard! It's a struggle for me every day. I'm the type who looks at food and a pound or two jumps on me. Not fun. But I've made the decision to stick with it this time. My goals are going well for me so far. I'm taking it one step at a time and slowly but surely, I will get there.

Do you struggle with weight loss? Found something that works well?

The grass is always greener...

I live in Southern California. I'm not from here. I come from a little town in Southern Oregon that most people have never heard of, but when my husband and I had our first child we decided to move here because all his family lived here and by a stroke of luck, my sister had recently moved here with her husband as well.

When we first moved here the thing I was most excited about was, NO MORE RAIN. LOL. Five years later, I miss it. Never thought I would, but I really do. Now, I'm sitting here in the beginning of January and its supposed to be seventy five degrees today. The sun is bright and while I know my friends in other areas are green with envy, I'm feeling the same way about them. Who would have thought you could get tired of sunshine? Don't get me wrong, I love it but after a while, you start wanting a little diversity. I want rain, clouds. Am I crazy? LOL. Guess its true what they say. The grass is always greener on the other side.

Favorite reads of 2009

I read a lot of books in 2009. I'm the type that gives myself time to read every day. I have to, if not I go a little crazy. LOL. It's my way to wind down after the day. That one thing that is mine and mine alone after a day spent caring for the hubby and kidlets. I read some great books, some okay books and some books that just didn't do it for me. These are my favorites of the year. They weren't all released in 2009 but that's when I read them :)

A friend of my recommended this book to me. It's an awesome erotic romance. Hot, hot, hot, but also emotional which is right up my alley! It's the only book I've read by this author, but I plan to get my hands on more!

When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created “perfect” life is about to unravel before her eyes. She’s forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for—her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect. Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more. In a passionate story about looking beneath the surface, Simone Elkeles breaks through the stereotypes and barriers that threaten to keep Brittany and Alex apart.

This is a YA while I know that's not every one's cup of tea, this is a fantastic book. I devoured the whole thing in one day and then promptly brought a copy for my friend and had it mailed to her. It's sweet and takes on some hard issues, like young men in gangs. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a sweet romance.

In a frozen wilderness steeped in darkness, the lines between good and evil, lover and enemy, are never black or white but drawn in Shades of Midnight.

Something inhuman is stalking the frigid Alaskan wilds, leaving unspeakable carnage in its wake. For bush pilot Alexandra Maguire, the killings stir memories of a horrific event she witnessed as a child and evoke in her the inexplicable sense of otherness she has long felt within herself but never fully understood . . . until a darkly seductive stranger with secrets of his own enters her world.

Sent from Boston on a mission to investigate the savage attacks and stop the slaughter, vampire warrior Kade has his own reasons for returning to the frigid, forbidding place of his birth. Haunted by a secret shame, Kade soon realizes the stunning truth of the threat he faces–a threat that will jeopardize the fragile bond he has formed with the courageous, determined young woman who arouses his deepest passions and most primal hungers. But in bringing Alex into his world of blood and darkness, Kade must confront both his own personal demons and the even greater evil that could destroy all he holds dear.

This is one of my favorite paranormal romance series. I fell in love with Dante in book too, fell harder for Tegan in book three and loved the books in between. Now I have Kade who is battling Tegan for my heart. Kade is a HOT, hero who wants to take care of his woman, but he doesn't deny the fact that she's a capable woman who can take care of herself too. Gotta love that in a man...err...vampire. LOL. This is a great series and Shades of Midnight was one of my favorite books in it.

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat

WOW!!!! This was by FAR my very favorite read of the year. In fact, all four books in the series are on my list but I figured I didn't need to post them all here. I picked this book up after it was recommended to my from Stacy. I read all four books that are currently released in one week. I neglected my dinner duties a bit but Cat and Bones were SO worth it. I laughed out loud countless times in the series. Cat and Bones not only have great chemistry but their banter is fantastic. Bones...what can I say about this hero? I think he's probably my number one hero off all time right now. He's sexy, strong, capable, tough, a great sense of humor and he loves Cat so much it made my heart twitter. There's great action in the books and Cat is a wonderful, kick-butt heroine who doesn't sit around and need to be taken care of. Love that about her.

And as a side note...there is one scene, chapter thirty-two in book two that is the hottest vampire love scene I have ever read...I almost need a glass of water just thinking about it.

There you have it. My list of my favorite reads of 2009. Any books you read last year that you want to rave about? Inquiring minds want to know!

Goals...gotta love 'em!

Every year I load myself down with a ton of resolutions. I always have big plans and the best intentions, but guess what? The first month of the year I always kick butt, working on the humongous list with fervor. By February, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed, but still in the game. My March I'm usually ready to burn the damn list. LOL.

So, it's taken me a few years to figure this out, but I think I finally have. A big ole list of a million resolutions is never going to work. It's too much. Guess how many of my list of ten I usually accomplish? One or two. This year I'm going about this a different way. I'm scratching the word resolutions and listing them as goals. I'm not hanging the list next to my computer to taunt me every day but they will be in the back of my mind. My goals are things I've wanted to work and would be working on regardless of the fact that it's a New Year.

1. Finish the weight loss I started last year. It's a tried and true resolution/goal that most of us have on our list. This year I want to scratch it off for GOOD. I've been working the past couple months on it so it's not something I'm just starting on the first. I'm kind of a work in progress in that department I guess you can say so maybe the fact that I've already been working toward it will help me. I'm already in the zone.

2. I want to at least equal, but hopefully write more this year than I did last. I already have my next couple projects lined up on paper so I just have to sit down and write them.

See? Easy right? LOL. Now lets see how I do on them...

Do you make resolutions or New Years goals?

Happy New Year and something FUN

Hey all. Wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I'm a day late, but seems I've been able to say that a lot lately. LOL. It's the thought that counts, right?

I'm planning a big month here. Mid January I will be having a blog party to shake things up! There will be prizes, guest authors and tons of fun. Check back for more details!
